Scoring
The "Performance
Path" |
Showing compliance to the new
Michigan Uniform Energy Code is
easier than you think, and Great
Lakes Home Performance has a
perfect solution to make it even
easier. |
| |
|
STEP 1
PLAN REVIEW |
Email your plans as a pdf file
along with a list of
specifications about the home
being planned. We will then
provide you with a PROJECTED
RATING CERTIFICATE which will
show what the home should score
upon completion. This
Certificate can be presented to
your code office with your
permit application. This review
may take several days, and
should be done as soon as all
the information is available. DO
NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY BEFORE
YOU PULL YOUR PERMIT! We will
work with you to make
suggestions for any changes that
may help bring the score into
compliance with the code.

STEP 2
T.B.C. |
NEW
ENERGY STAR CHECKLISTS: There
are now FOUR checklists to be
completed.
THERMAL ENCLOSURE CHECKLIST is a
post-insulation, pre-drywall
checklist to be completed by the
RATER to ensure that all areas
are insulated and air sealed
before being covered. Builders
should be prepared to make a few
minor corrections, and may wish
to have the insulation
contractors present during the
inspection. We will also be
visually inspecting any ductwork
and framing which affects energy
use of the home. A copy of the
checklist is available in the
E-Library under
ENERGY CODE
COMPLIANCE.
HVAC SYSTEM QUALITY INSTALLATION
CONTRACTOR CHECKLIST is to be
completed by the HVAC contractor
and submitted to the RATER prior
to final inspection
WATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM BUILDER
CHECKLIST is to be completed by
the builder or supervisor and
submitted to the rater at or
prior to final inspection |
|
STEP 3
FINAL TESTING |
Once construction is
complete, the rater will verify
the assumptions made during the
plan review and projected
rating. The rater will also
conduct a BLOWER DOOR AND DUCT
BLASTER TEST to verify air
tightness of the building
envelope and duct system.
Testing will take approximately
two hours. The home must be 99%
complete before testing: windows
and doors adjusted to fit,
plumbing fixtures and flooring
installed, drain traps filled,
HVAC registers installed and
system operating, etc. |
|
STEP 4
THAT'S IT! |
After final testing, and if
the home does not need
additional testing, your final
ENERGY RATING CERTIFICATE will
arrive in four to five business
days. You will need to show this
CONFIRMED RATING in order to
obtain your occupancy permit. If
you have qualified for any
additional tax credits or
rebates as a result of the
rating, the forms for those
incentives will arrive with your
rating reports. |
